Other brand in 16x25x1: AAF Flanders MERV 13, 12-pack. The same MERV 13 filtration level as the Camfil AP-Thirteen SC, from a different manufacturer, and 3/4 inch thick instead of 7/8.

Will it fit?
Yes, if 16x25x1 is printed on the frame of your current filter. That number is the nominal size, not the exact size. The Camfil filters on this page measure 15 1/2 x 24 1/2 x 7/8 inches, and the AAF Flanders measures 15 1/2 x 24 1/2 x 3/4 inches. An exact size slightly smaller than the name is normal: it is what lets the filter slide into the slot.
When should I change it?
There is no fixed interval. It depends on your home: pets, renovations, and whether the fan runs all the time. Your filter tells you: when it looks grey and loaded with dust, change it. A long-life filter simply takes longer to get there.
Tested
Camfil rates its filters under ASHRAE Standard 52.2, the test behind the MERV scale. At minimum, a MERV 8 captures 70% of particles from 3 to 10 microns, such as dust and pollen. A MERV 11 also captures 65% of particles from 1 to 3 microns. A MERV 13 captures half of the particles from 0.3 to 1 micron, such as smoke.
Before choosing MERV 13
A MERV 13 filter is more restrictive than a MERV 8, 9 or 11. In the 1-inch thickness, Camfil rates the AP-Thirteen SC at about twice the starting air resistance of its other four filters. Some heating and cooling systems take it without any trouble, others don't. If you are not sure yours can, check your system manufacturer's recommendations before you order. This applies to both MERV 13 filters on this page, the Camfil AP-Thirteen SC and the AAF Flanders.
16x25x1 furnace filter questions
Why are there two MERV 8 filters?+
The Camfil Aeropleat III is the standard one. The Camfil Farr 30/30 filters at the same level but has more media, 16 pleats per foot instead of 12, so it fills up more slowly and you change it less often.
Is the MERV 9 better than the MERV 11?+
Not for filtration. The Camfil Dual 9 is chosen for how long it lasts: two layers of media, on the same frame as the Farr 30/30. For finer filtration, the Camfil AP-Eleven, MERV 11, captures more of the fine particles.
Which one captures the finest particles?+
The two MERV 13 filters, the Camfil AP-Thirteen SC and the AAF Flanders. Read the note on MERV 13 above before you order.
I'm not sure which one to choose+
Start with what matters most to you. If dust is your main concern and you change filters on a schedule, the Camfil Aeropleat III does the job. If you would rather change your filter less often, take the Farr 30/30 or the Dual 9. If you want finer filtration that stays easy on your furnace fan, take the Camfil AP-Eleven: Camfil rates it with the lowest starting air resistance of its five filters.
