Cheap copies are showing up 
Aftermarket substitutes for the HERO 200H and 250H are being sold online at low prices. They are not built to Fantech's specification, and a filter that fits loosely lets air slip around it instead of through it.

Your HERO unit says Fantech. The box may say Systemair. Both are right — Systemair has owned Fantech since 2008, and Fantech is its residential brand in North America. Same company, same filter.

About the numbers: the filter you are pulling out may be stamped 414684. The box we ship says 428527. Both are this product — one is the filter, the other is the kit of two. What matters is that your unit is a HERO 200H or 250H.

Which way it goes in
There is a black arrow printed on the side of each filter. It points the way the air travels.
Slide the filter in so the arrow points in the same direction as the airflow through your HERO. A pleated filter installed backwards does not filter as well and clogs faster.
Wipe around the filter slot before sliding the new one in, and check that it sits snug with no gap around the edges. Air always takes the easy path, and a gap lets it skip the filter entirely.
When to replace it
Lifespan: 3 months. Fantech recommends checking your filters every three months and replacing them when they look dirty or clogged.
Do not wash this filter. The MERV 8, MERV 13 and HEPA filters for the HERO have a cardboard frame and cannot be washed. They are replaced. Only the electrostatic filter is washable.
Filter changes vary with environment. Pets, indoor smoking, or a dusty area all mean replacing more often.
