What the pad does
Water flows through the pad while warm air from your furnace passes through it. Some of that water evaporates, adding moisture to the air circulating through your home.
The pad is made from expanded aluminum with a special coating that absorbs water. Over time, minerals build up on the surface and reduce its performance. That's why the pad needs to be replaced regularly.
When to replace it
GeneralAire recommends replacing the pad at least once a year. The beginning of the heating season is a good time. Each box contains three pads, so you'll have replacements ready when you need them.
If you have hard water, mineral deposits may build up faster. A pad that's covered in white, crusty deposits may need to be replaced sooner.
Don't wash it. Washing removes the special coating that absorbs water. Even if the pad looks clean afterward, it won't work properly.
Installation tip: The pad has a black mark. Install it with the black mark facing up.

Returns must be requested within 35 days of delivery. All three pads must be new, unused and in their original packaging. If even one pad has been used or damaged, we cannot accept the box for return. Return authorization is required, and return shipping costs are generally the customer's responsibility.
